Founders, Evander Jack Dewar and Daniel Stanikowski began Half Blind Owl with the vision of producing and developing Canadian works from emerging artists. The small and daring company itself may be new, the members of our collective are old friends—some of us met barefoot in the rehearsal studios of university, others in the hallowed halls of high school.

Our connections have been long in the making, but it was BLANK that swept us all up, brought us together, and set us off on this artistic venture as HBO. Our shared history and creative bond are the heart and soul of everything we do. The core members of our team are Evander Jack Dewar, Katelyn Doyle, Ren Reid, Daniel Stanikowski, and Samantha Uhl.

We are united by a playful commitment to creating innovative, offbeat and compelling Canadian theatre that doesn’t shy away from the strange and wonderful. We specialize in absurdist works that poke, prod, and twist traditional theatre into new, uncharted shapes. Our performances are designed to be intimate, immersive experiences where the audience isn’t just a spectator but a participant in the magic. We aim to create a space where people feel personally connected to the art—where laughter, reflection, and wonder intermingle. By pulling the curtain back with public workshops we invite the audience into the creative process. We let them witness our evolution as artists, thereby enriching the overall experience.

We believe the human experience is inherently whimsical, and we’re drawn to works that embrace the bizarre, the funny, and the deeply personal. Through our productions, we hope to offer a fresh lens on the world—one that sparks both laughter and introspection, like a little twist of joy and thoughtfulness in the midst of life’s beautiful absurdity.
